Nacir Beamon, Milwaukee Academy

of Science: The sophomore guard finished with 30 points, two off his season high, in a 104-101 victory over Dominican on Wednesday at home. Beamon made 11 of 14 shots and hit 3 three-pointers while grabbing six rebounds, dishing out four assists and blocking three shots. He enters the new year second on the team in scoring (19.2 ppg) and rebounding (6.2 rpg) and first in assists (5.1).

Team of the week South Milwaukee

The Rockets made some noise in the state rankings last week with a 59-52 victory at home over Lakeside Lutheran, the ninth-ranked team in the wissports.net Division 3 state rankings. Junior guard/forward Jake Durham

finished with 26 points on ninefor-19 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds in the victory. The team also received eight points each from Max Johnson and Daniel Klutz with Johnson hitting two of the team’s 4 threepoint­ers. The victory raised the Rockets’ record to 2-2.

Rick Majerus Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Shootout, Tuesday-Thursday at Concordia University: The top showcase of the season returns after a one-year break due to the pandemic with 24 games over three-days. Here are some of the top matchup: Tuesday - Lake Country Lutheran vs. Sheboygan Lutheran, 10 a.m.; Wauwatosa West vs. DeForest at 2:30 p.m.; Wisconsin Lutheran vs. De Pere at 7 p.m.; Wednesday – De Pere vs. Wauwatosa West, 5:30 p.m.; Brookfield East vs. Arrowhead, 8:30 p.m. Thursday – Onalaska vs. Franklin, 4 p.m.

Mukwonago vs. West Allis Central at New Berlin West Viking Holiday Classic, 11:30 a.m. Wednesday: This will be a great non-conference test, especially for Central, which will try to show its mettle after lopsided losses to Pewaukee and Dominican earlier this season. The contest is part of a 23-game (varsity) showcase that features boys and girls games and will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at West and New Berlin Eisenhower.

Chekouras Classic at Homestead, Thursday: The showcase that is named after former Homestead coach John Chekouras features three games: Milwaukee King vs. Brown Deer, 3 p.m.; Beloit vs. Milwaukee Vincent, 5 p.m.; and Germantown vs. Homestead, 7 p.m.
