Pauline (Joan) (nee Ratkowski) Sass

PARADISE VALLEY - Passed away peacefully on May 15, 2022 at the age of 97 years.

She was the beloved wife of Warren W. Sass (who preceded her in death) for an amazing 70 years. Sister of the late Myron (Helen) Ratkowski, late Delores (the late Robert) Graeven, the late Stephen (Clementine) Ratkowski, Michael (Carol) Ratkowski, and Daniel (the late Sue) Ratkowski. Further survived by numerous friends, nieces and nephews.

Joan, who was affectiona­tely known by her family as Ina, graduated from Bay View High School where she was a stand-out tennis player.

After she retired from her job with the city of West Allis, Joan and Warren opened Sass Travel Service which they ran for 30 years. It enabled them to travel all over the world. Joan and Warren flew to Spain, France, England, Ireland, Japan, they sailed on over 25 luxury cruises, walked the Great Wall in China, safaried in Africa, cuddled koalas in the Australian outback, attended luaus in Hawaii and carnivals in Rio de Janeiro.

Joan and Warren were ardent boaters and when not traveling could often be found on their Chris-Craft- The Sassy Too. They were life members of the South Shore Yacht Club and belonged to the Milwaukee Power Squadron and LMYA.

Joan and Warren belonged to the Classic Thunderbir­d Club of Wisconsin and enjoyed driving their classy 1965 silver-mink Bird to car shows.

Joan loved dogs, especially Toy Poodles and Bichon Frises and was forever ready to reminisce about her much-loved: Gigi, Mimi, Penny or Candy.

Joan spent her time between her home in West Allis and her condo in Paradise Valley Scottsdale Arizona. She loved life and appreciate­d its finer things especially a well-made martini enjoyed with laughter and good company. A charming, generous lady with a fine sense of humor and style, Joan will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 27, 2022 at 3:00 PM at St. Rita Catholic Church S. 60th & W. Lincoln Ave. with visitation 2:00 PM until time of Mass. Private Entombment St. Adalbert Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n appreciate­d.
