4 things to do in Milwaukee during Memorial Day weekend
1. Memorial Day ceremonies
There’s no Memorial Day parade in downtown Milwaukee this year, but the nation’s fallen soldiers won’t be forgotten on Monday. Among the ceremonies:
● Wood National Cemetery is holding a ceremony to “Remember and Honor” the soldiers, their families and those still missing in action at 9 a.m. May 30 at the cemetery, 5000 W. National Ave. Info: Memorial Day Ceremony/Wood National Cemetery Facebook event page.

2. New beer garden at War Memorial Center
Kegel’s Inn opens its beer garden this weekend at the War Memorial Center, 750 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive. With food trucks also on hand, the beer garden is open starting May 26 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily (closed Mondays). Info: warmemorialbeer garden.com.
3. Wilde Subaru Family Kite Festival in Veterans Park
The Wilde Subaru Family Kite Festival returns to Veterans Park, on Lake Michigan north of downtown Milwaukee, May 28-29. Hundreds of kites will take wing, including the Windjammers precision kite-flying team, along with free kite-flying lessons and a “grand launch” of 600 kites at noon both days. The first 100 kids participating in the “Kids Mad Dash” will get a free kite. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 28, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 29. Admission is free.
