LAKEWAY, TEXAS - Frank Michael Mayer, 86, of Lakeway, Texas, peacefully passed away on April 13, 2022, in Greenville, North Carolina, lovingly surrounded by family.

Frank was born July 9, 1935 to Frank Joseph & Rose Theresa (Rutter) Mayer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After graduating high school, Frank enrolled at Marquette University to explore his passion for civil engineerin­g. During his first year of college, he was called to serve in the military, joined the Army in December 1956, and was stationed in Fort Sheridan, Illinois. He spent most of his time in Saumur, France as a military engineer and was honorably discharged in 1958.

Upon return to civilian life, Frank earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineerin­g from Marquette University in 1961. He met his future wife Mary who he described as “the most beautiful girl (he) had ever seen”. They were married in 1960 in Milwaukee Wisconsin where they began their family. Together they had three sons, Michael, Craig and Kevin whom Frank centered his life around and was a dedicated and proud father.

The family moved across many states and had many adventures during Frank’s career as a civil engineer for the Federal Highway Administra­tion. While in Lansing, Michigan, Frank earned a Master of Engineerin­g degree at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Highlights of his outstandin­g career include being the Federal Highway Administra­tor for both Wisconsin and Texas.

Frank was a golf enthusiast, Dixieland jazz collector, and connoisseu­r of foods from around the world. He loved travelling, dancing, walking his dog, and was active in the catholic church. He spent most of his retirement in Lakeway with his wife Mary until she passed in 2008. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank & Rose Mayer and brother, Howard Mayer.

He leaves behind his sons Michael (Marlee) Mayer of Greenville, North Carolina, Craig (Kathy) Mayer of Madison, Wisconsin and Kevin (Winova) Mayer of Jacksonvil­le, Florida as well as seven grandchild­ren Kaitlin (Chris) Gibbs, Zachary Mayer, Ryne and Kacy Mayer, and Parker, Asara and Austin Mayer whom he dearly loved. In addition, Frank was blessed to have also spent time with his two great-grandchild­ren, Otto and Bodie Gibbs.

A Memorial Mass will be held on June 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Emmaus Catholic Church 1718 Lohmans Crossing Road, Lakeway, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
