A look at the 11-day Wisconsin State Fair

From bargain books to Cream Puffs, here’s how to save money and have even more fun at the Wisconsin State Fair. For its 171st year, the Wisconsin State Fair, presented by UScellular, will open its gates in West Allis for 11 days of food and fun with plenty of ways to save. Since the beginning, the Wisconsin State Fair has celebrated everything that makes the Badger State great, from an innovative spirit to a rich heritage of agriculture. Past and present, this is a state of doers and makers. From Aug. 4-14, Fairgoers from near and far can honor that spirit while enjoying some of the top names in music as well as livestock competitions, quilt-making showdowns and of course, some very serious dairy contenders, among many other events awarding prestigious blue ribbons and other prizes. Back when the Fair started in 1851 — the same year that the state adopted the motto “Forward” — it traveled from city to city before settling into its present location in 1892. Now this destination event attracts millions — making for millions and millions of memories made every year.

Take advantage of hot deals and discounts

With a wide variety of things to do, the State Fair has something for everyone. It has long been a family-friendly gathering place, where memories are made and all are welcome. Today, it continues to buzz with exciting educational events, delicious food and entertainment for all ages. This year, the Fair will also have new hours of operation, opening every day at 10 a.m. and closing at 10 p.m., Sunday to Wednesday, and midnight, Thursday to Saturday. To keep the fun times affordable and accessible, there are deals and discounts that’ll help families get more bang for their buck, including Fair Deals, ticket packages and ways to earn free tickets. Kids, for example, can earn a free ticket when they participate in summer reading programs at some local libraries. Among the Fair Deals, there are ways to save on general admission tickets, rides and games at SpinCity, bargain books, and the legendary Cream Puffs. The latter have been a delicious Fair tradition for nearly 100 years and still look scrumptious on social media. Another way to save is planning a group visit for 50 or more people, which is a great option for schools, workplaces, teams and religious organizations, among others.

Shop and eat with the best of them

Shopping is another main attraction with more than 500 vendor locations, ranging from homewares to outdoor gear for your next camping trip. You can also get a jump-start on your holiday shopping with unique and creative gifts. Of course, the other big draw is that unbeatable Fair food! To taste a bit of it all, Crazy Grazin’ Day (Aug. 9) is a can’t-miss chance for food lovers to try smaller portions of dishes and treats at more than 30 locations for a low price. Throughout the Fair, you’ll find attractive food and shopping deals to add to the experience. A Fair favorite? The official Wisconsin State Fair souvenir cup, which comes filled with a CocaCola beverage for $7 and costs just $3 to refill at participating vendors. But, at the State Fair, one’s cup generally overflows with exciting ways to spend your time. To plan your visit to the Wisconsin State Fair (Aug. 4-14) go to WiStateFair.com today.
