Parallel 44 honored at Cold Climate Wine Competition
Parallel 44 Vineyard & Winery of Kewaunee was awarded Winery of the Year at the 2022 International Cold Climate Wine Competition.
The competition recognizes wineries in the Upper Midwest, Northeast and parts of Canada that produce wines from cold-hardy grape varieties. The Parallel 44 winery has more than 7,000 vines that can withstand minus-30-degree temperatures in winter.
In total, Parallel 44 received 15 medals for its wines, including best of show white wine and best of class white for the semisweet 2021 La Crescent, and best of class red blend for its 2021 Nouveau Rouge. State Fair cream puffs discounted for pre-orders
Orders are open with pre-fair pricing on cream puffs, brownies and chocolate chip cookies for pickup at the State Fair Park drive-thru from 7 to 9 a.m. Aug. 8 to 12.
Prices are $14 for a three-pack of cream puffs and $25 for a six-pack, $15 for a three-pack of brownies, $12 for a three-pack of chocolate chip cookies and $24 for a six-pack.

Milwaukee Brewfest tickets on sale
Tickets are on sale for the 2022 Milwaukee Brewfest, taking place July 30 at McKinley Park, 1600 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive.
Milwaukee Brewfest has unlimited sampling of craft beers, ciders, wines and meads from more than 100 producers. Food and nonalcoholic beverages from local restaurants and vendors will be sold, with some food sampling options. General admission is $65 in advance and $75 at the gate, if not sold out. A VIP ticket is $85 in advance, and it allows an additional hour of sampling and access to a VIP lounge on-site. A $20 designated driver ticket includes a food and drink voucher.

Project Connect begins in July
Tricia's Troops Cancer Connection will provide free sessions on healthy eating, spiritual resilience and physical activity for cancer patients living in Waukesha County.
The Project Connect wellness program begins July 1 and continues through January, offering the Wholesome Path online course, which teaches nutritional approaches to fight cancer. The program is open to individuals who are receiving cancer treatment or survivors within 10 years of completing treatment.
Registration is required for access to the first cooking demonstration, which will be presented July 8 by Alison Tierney, owner of Wholesome in Oconomowoc. Future cooking demonstrations and online mini-courses will highlight healthy eating and the healing power of whole foods.

Wisconsin schools earn Rachael Ray Foundation grants
ProStart Grow grants for culinary programs have been awarded to Northland Pines Middle and High School in Eagle River, Williams Bay High School and Sun Prairie East High School.
The winning schools will receive $5,000 from the Rachael Ray Foundation to strengthen existing programs or kick off new ProStart programs. The curriculum teaches high school students skills for working in the restaurant and food service industry.

Pour-your-own beer wall debuts at Lake Geneva Tap House
Taste a sample or drink a full pint at Lake Geneva Tap House's new self-pour tap wall. The self-serve system allows guests to pay by the ounce using a radiofrequency identification wristband, which tracks the ounces poured.
The tap wall holds a rotating selection of 50 beverages. It focuses on craft brews from Wisconsin but also dispenses wines, ciders and seltzers.
The technology details each drink's alcohol by volume, a beer's level of bitterness, tasting notes and the price per ounce.
