They’re cooking turkey, ham and all the fixings.

And they’re getting ready for a special 33rd Salvation Army Christmas Family Feast on Sunday at the Wisconsin Center.

After two years of carry-out service because of the pandemic, in-person dining returns for the joyful community celebration.

Doors to the Wisconsin Center open at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, with meals served between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Organizers request that people in line wear masks.

There will be no takeout.

About 5,000 people are expected to attend the event, according to Sheree Dallas Branch, assistant director for development with the Salvation Army of Milwaukee County.

“We are short on volunteers but think we’ll be OK,” she said.

People can still sign up for volunteer slots through the Salvation Army website.

IThere won’t be any carolers, but a disc jockey will be spinning Christmas tunes and Santa Claus will be making an appearance.

Some key donations include bobbleheads from the Milwaukee Brewers and thousands of pairs of socks from Clothing Across America and the community of Hartland.
