Magic Mike, Marlowe and a killer Winnie the Pooh
Last dances, last chances and a murderous Winnie the Pooh come to a theater near you this week.
Here’s what’s new in Milwaukeearea theaters starting Friday, as well as some of the new movies available on streaming and on demand this week.
(Reminder: Go to
to find out where you can see this year’s Oscar-nominated movies.)
‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance’
Short version: After a business deal goes wrong, the titular exotic dancer (Channing Tatum) connects with a wealthy impresario (Salma Hayek Pinault) to put together a flashy malestripper show in London, with a whole new cast of dancers. Steven Soderbergh, who directed the first “Magic Mike” movie but ducked the worse-reviewed sequel, is back behind the camera again for this third, and presumably final, chapter.
Where you can see it: Marcus Theatres’ Majestic, Movie Tavern Brookfield Square, North Shore, Ridge, South Shore cinemas.
‘Consecration’
Short version: After the suspicious death of her brother, a priest, a woman goes to the Scottish convent where it happened to find the truth, and uncovers some pretty scary stuff. Jena Malone and Danny Huston star in this horror-thriller.
Where you can see it: Marcus Theatres’ Menomonee Falls, Ridge, South Shore cinemas.
‘Seriously Red’
Short version: After her career collapses, a woman (Krew Boylan, who also wrote the screenplay) throws herself into a new gig — as a Dolly Parton impersonator — in this Australian second-chances comedy. Bobby Cannavale and Rose Byrne co-star.
Where you can see it: Marcus Theatres’ Hillside, Ridge, Saukville, Showtime cinemas.
‘She Came From the Woods’
Short version: In this period slasher movie, counselors at a summer camp in 1987 share a ghost story and, naturally, end up reviving the ghost.
Where you can see it: Marcus Theatres’ Menomonee Falls, Ridge, South Shore cinemas.
Opening Feb. 15: ‘Marlowe’
Short version: Liam Neeson joins the impressive list of tough-guy actors playing Raymond Chandler’s classic private detective Philip Marlowe in this thriller set in 1930s Los Angeles, with Marlowe hired to find the former lover of an heiress (Diane Kruger) whose mother was a movie star (Jessica Lange). Alan Cumming, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Danny Huston and Colm Meaney co-star; Neil Jordan directed.
Where you can see it: AMC Mayfair Mall; Marcus Theatres’ Hillside, Majestic, Menomonee Falls, North Shore, Ridge, Saukville, Showtime, South Shore cinemas.
Opening Feb. 15: ‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey’
Short version: Christopher Robin returns to the 100 Acre Wood as a young man, only to discover that Winnie the Pooh and Piglet have gone feral and, after being abandoned for years, are out for blood. No, this horror-thriller is not part of the A.A. Milne canon — it’s a low-budget riff on the beloved children’s book characters made possible by the Milne estate’s copyright lapsing.
Where you can see it: AMC Mayfair Mall. Marcus Theatres’ Bistroplex Southridge, Hillside, Majestic, Menomonee Falls, Movie Tavern Brookfield Square, North Shore, Ridge, Saukville, Southgate, South Shore cinemas.
‘Titanic,’ remastered in 3D
To mark the 25th anniversary of James Cameron’s other big epic, “Titanic” is back in a restored 3D edition. It’s showing multiple times daily at AMC Mayfair Mall and Marcus Theatres’ Bistroplex Southridge, Hillside, Majestic, Menomonee Falls, Movie Tavern Brookfield Square, North Shore,
Ridge, Saukville, Showtime, Southgate, South Shore cinemas. Info:

‘Third Man’ at Oriental Theatre
It doesn’t getting any noir-ier — or, really any better — than this 1949 classic thriller set in occupied postwar Vienna, with indelible performances by Joseph Cotton, Alida Valli, Trevor Howard and Kenosha’s own Orson Welles. It’s showing in a rare big-screen outing at 3 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Oriental Theatre. Tickets are $12. Info:
Valentine’s, Galentine’s movies
