Mavis Ann Hoesly (nee Inderberg)

-

February 15, 1930 - March 14, 2023 Uff-da! Mavis Ann Hoesly of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin passed away on March 14, 2023. She had recently celebrated her 93rd birthday. She is survived by Richard (Dick) Hoesly, with whom she shared almost 75 years of marriage. Mavis was born on February 15, 1930 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin to Jerome and Liza Inderberg. She was the youngest of their six children who all predeceased their baby sister.

Mavis and Dick met each other in grade school in LaCrosse and started dating in high school. They began their life together living in married student housing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which at the time was a trailer with no indoor plumbing. Their two eldest children soon joined them in that trailer. After college, they moved to several different towns in Wisconsin, eventually settling in Wauwatosa in the early 60’s until 1977 when they moved to New Jersey, then back to Wisconsin, New York, and Texas before finally retiring and returning to Wisconsin for good in 1990.

Mavis’ pride and joy was her family of six children. She spent much of her life focusing on the care and needs of the kids. After the kids were older, she worked at several jobs, notably at the Johnson Atelier in Princeton, NJ and Princeton University.

Mavis and Dick were very active travelers through most of the United States, Canada, and much of Europe. Their life together included many lifelong friendships with people from each of the many places they resided over the years. Mavis lived a life of 93 years that was far more fulfilling than she could have ever imagined having grown up during the Depression and World War II.

In addition to Dick, Mavis is survived by her daughter Mary Patch (Dana) of Medfield, MA, and sons Robert Hoesly (Jill) of Englewood, FL, Greg Hoesly (Julie) of Elm Grove, WI, Mark Hoesly (Cathy) of Norton, MA, and Brian Hoesly (Erin) of Ipswich, MA. She was predeceased by her eldest son Thomas Hoesly (Debbie) formerly of Oconomowoc, WI. Mavis is also survived by her 15 loving grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She loved them so much there was never a conversation or a phone call when she didn’t ask how each of them was doing.

In memory of Mavis, please follow the motto by which she lived “if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”

There will be a celebration of Mavis’ life on April 1, 2023 at the Unity-Cross of Life Lutheran Church in Brookfield, from 10-11am. Service at 11am, followed by a reception at the Krause Funeral home in Brookfield.
