Nancy J. Koepke
Nancy J. Koepke (nee Foerst) found peace on March 8, 2024 at the age of 89. She was a resident of New Castle Place in Mequon, WI and previously resided in Naples, FL and Elm Grove, WI. Nancy was the wife of the late Donald E. Koepke. She is survived by her children: Karen (the late Steven) Sullivan, Jack (Kristine), Thomas, Michael (Linda) and grandchildren Kevin and Anne Sullivan, Katherine, Sarah, Matthew and Calvin.
Nancy was born and raised in Madison, WI where she grew up across from Camp Randall Stadium. After attending Madison West High School, Nancy received her nursing degree from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1956.
While practicing as a surgical ICU nurse at University Hospital, Nancy met and later married surgical resident, Don Koepke. Nancy’s selflessness and generosity was evident as she shouldered responsibility for the home and children while supporting Don’s medical career.
Nancy remained connected to the medical field through volunteering. She spent countless hours as a “Pink Lady” at Lutheran Hospital and resupplying exam rooms at the local volunteer-run medical clinic. In retirement, she made weekly drop-offs at a community meal site.
With the family, Nancy spent summers at the northern Wisconsin lake home. She successfully wrangled the four children by insisting they wear red sweatshirts so she could keep track of them. Despite not knowing how to swim, she managed to keep the kids safe as they enjoyed time on the lake.
Nancy’s elegance shined through her love of cooking and entertaining. Early dinner parties featured pheasant Don brought from hunting. Later, her specialty turned to Italian dinners after attending cooking school in Florence, Italy.
Nancy and Don retired to Naples, FL in 1988, spending time with friends, golfing, traveling, reading, and sharing in the joy of life! They opened their doors to their children and grandchildren who visited often.
Words cannot express the gratitude Nancy’s children feel for the love and dedication from Trish as she daily cared for their mom. Trish’s presence had a big impact on Nancy’s final years.
A private family celebration of her life was held. Nancy’s faith was important to her and memorials to Fox Point Lutheran Church (7510 N. Santa Monica Blvd. Fox Point, WI 53217) are appreciated.
