Con­struc­tion be­gan on the hotly de­bated street­car ear­lier this year, with an air of “let’s build the dang thing al­ready.” The city has hosted a num­ber of “Street­car So­cials” at busi­nesses along the route to keep in­ter­est bub­bling.

When we heard a new out­fit would take over the his­toric East Side theater, we were ter­ri­fied. But when the news broke in June, and the owner turned out to be Mil­wau­kee Film (of the Mil­wau­kee Film Fes­ti­val), which signed a 31-year-lease, we were re­lieved and en­chanted.
