Photo of the Week: Award-Winning B.E.2c

-

Our Photo of the Week feature on Facebook remains one of our more popular postings, and we recently added an image of a true masterpiece. If you attended The Toledo R/C Model Expo, you may recognize Brian Perkins’s beautiful scratch-built 26.5% scale Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2c. Brian’s amazing biplane earned him first place in the Designer Scale class, the People’s Choice award, and the coveted Best of Show award! With a wingspan of 117 inches, the B.E.2c weighs in at 30 pounds and is powered by a DLE-55cc gas engine. Brian recently test-flew his amazing B.E.2c and reported that it’s very stable and a joy to fly. Be sure to watch for a detailed Readers’ Gallery of Brian’s award winner in a future issue.

Skip Evans: I have seen Mr. Perkins at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome during the MidHudson R/C Jamboree & WW I Airshow. If his new biplane is anything like his giant-scale Bristol Scout, it’s no wonder he received so many awards at The Toledo Show.

George Michaels: Wow! I saw Mr. Perkins’s airplane at The Toledo Show. The closer you looked, the more detail popped up. A welldeserved win!

Thomas James: The B.E.2c from the Royal Aircraft Factory is one of my favorite vintage aeroplanes. Brian is to be commended for such a wonderful job of producing this great scale replica.

Kevin Siemonsen: Brian is a member if the Kingston Radio Control Modellers club in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. I was privileged to see Brian put his beautiful biplane through its paces at the flying field. Job well done!
