Thedacare, Appleton, Wis., promoted Kim Barnas to senior VP of Appleton Medical Center and Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, Wis. Barnas, 55, will replace Kathryn Correia, who left to become CEO of Healtheast Care System in St. Paul, Minn. Barnas began with Thedacare in 1994 as VP of developmen­t. Most recently, she served as system VP of oncology and spine services. … Less than a year since opening, University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center, Beachwood, Ohio, has a new president. Susan Juris, 56, will assume the post Jan. 2 for Ahuja, which opened in March. Juris, VP of patient access of the system’s UH physician services, replaces James Benedict Jr., now director of internatio­nal logistics for Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, a hospital scheduled to open in 2013 in the United Arab Emirates. Benedict was named to the top job at Ahuja in 2009. … Dr. Walter

Ettinger resigned as president of Umass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, Mass. Ettinger will join Accretive Health, a revenuecyc­le services company based in Chicago, as a senior VP in January, according to a memo from John O’brien, CEO of the hospital’s parent, Umass Memorial Healthcare. O’brien said he will be become more actively involved in operations at Umass Memorial Medical Center and will work closely with Dr. Jennifer Daley, the hospital’s COO. Ettinger, 60, was the hospital’s president for eight years. … Health Management Associates, Naples, Fla., named Mike Fencel to a newly created position overseeing the company’s 11 affiliated hospitals in North Florida. As CEO of HMA’S North Florida Division, Fencel, 52, also will oversee the division’s physician practices, ancillary services, surgical centers and other affiliated entities. He previously was CEO of Hca-owned Brandon (Fla.) Regional Hospital.

Sonosite CFO Marcus Smith will step down, less than a month after Fujifilm Holdings Corp. announced plans to acquire the Bothell, Wash.-based ultrasound device manufactur­er. Anil

Amlani, most recently president and CEO of Sonosite subsidiary Visualsoni­cs, has been tapped to replace Smith, according to a Sonosite news release. The appointmen­t takes effect Jan. 2. Amlani held executive positions at MDS Proteomics, Cancom and TD Bank before joining Visualsoni­cs in 2005. Sonosite acquired Visualsoni­cs in 2010. Smith joined Sonosite in 2007 and was named senior VP and CFO in 2010. He is expected to leave the company Jan. 5, according to the release. Tokyobased Fujifilm said in mid-december that it would acquire Sonosite for about $995 million.
