Dr. Jef­frey Lieber­man, Columbia Univer­sity Col­lege of Physi­cians and Sur­geons depart­ment of psy­chi­a­try chair­man, has been cho­sen pres­i­dent-elect of the 36,000-mem­ber Amer­i­can Psy­chi­atric As­so­ci­a­tion. Lieber­man, 64, also is psy­chi­a­trist-in-chief at the Columbia Univer­sity Med­i­cal Cen­ter cam­pus of New York-pres­by­te­rian Hospi­tal and is a mem­ber of the ed­i­to­rial board of the Amer­i­can Jour­nal of Psy­chi­a­try and the Amer­i­can Psy­chi­atric Foun­da­tion board of di­rec­tors, ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease. His term as pres­i­dent-elect be­gins at the con­clu­sion of the APA an­nual meet­ing May 5-9 in Philadel­phia, and he will as­sume the pres­i­dent’s post in May 2013.


James Gard­ner Thomas Rock­ers has been tapped to suc­ceed as CEO of St. An­thony’s Med­i­cal Cen­ter, St. Louis. Rock­ers, who joined the hospi­tal in 2003 as pres­i­dent and CEO, will re­tire March 28, ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease. Gard­ner, 54, most re­cently served as pres­i­dent and CEO of Gainesville, Ga.-based North­east Ge­or­gia Health Sys­tem. Gard­ner will as­sume his role as CEO on April 16. Bar­clay Ber­dan po­si­tion of COO and se­nior ex­ec­u­tive VP, ef­fec­tive April 1 and as part of a re­or­ga­ni­za­tion an­nounced this month. Ber­dan, 58, cur­rently is se­nior ex­ec­u­tive VP for sys­tem align­ment and per­for­mance for the sys­tem. He will be re­spon­si­ble for three ge­o­graph­i­cal zones that the sys­tem cre­ated with the re­or­ga­ni­za­tion, and also will over­see ser­vice lines and man­age­ment of joint ven­tures and part­ner­ships with or­ga­ni­za­tions pro­vid­ing ser­vices such as well­ness, home health and re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion, ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease.
