CEO IT hon­orees named

Altschuler, Brit­ton, Miller use IT to meet goals

Mod­ern Health­care is pleased to an­nounce the re­cip­i­ents of this year’s CEO IT Achieve­ment Award, which is co-spon­sored by the Health­care In­for­ma­tion and Man­age­ment Sys­tems So­ci­ety.

The 2012 win­ners are Dr. Steven Altschuler, CEO of The Chil­dren’s Hospi­tal of Philadel­phia; Lynn Brit­ton, pres­i­dent and CEO of Mercy in Ch­ester­field, Mo.; and Richard Miller, pres­i­dent and CEO of Vir­tua in Marl­ton, N.J.

The trio of ex­ec­u­tives brings to 26 the num­ber of CEOS who have re­ceived the award, which was

Altschuler cre­ated in 2003.

The award rec­og­nizes health­care CEOS who demon­strate lead­er­ship and a com­mit­ment to us­ing in­for­ma­tion tech­nol­ogy to ad­vance their or­ga­ni­za­tions’ goals. A five-judge panel con­sist­ing of two CEOS cho­sen by Mod­ern Health­care and three chief in­for­ma­tion of­fi­cers cho­sen by HIMSS se­lected Altschuler, Brit­ton and Miller from a pool of 63 nom­i­nees.

Mod­ern Health­care and HIMSS an­nounced the 10th an­nual CEO IT Achieve­ment Award com­pe­ti­tion on Jan. 16, and the dead­line for sub­mis­sions was March 9. It was ex­tended to March 23 to ac­com­mo­date late en­tries. The judges eval­u­ated the nom­i­na­tions through April 1, with the three win­ners de­ter­mined on April 9. Mod­ern Health­care will pro­file this year’s re­cip­i­ents in a spe­cial sec­tion to be pub­lished in the mag­a­zine’s June 11 is­sue. Also, the trio will be hon­ored dur­ing Na­tional Health IT Week in Washington in Septem­ber.
