-

Who: Jessica Bibliowicz, 55

Appointment: Chairwoman of the Weill Cornell Medical College board of overseers, effective Jan. 1. She will succeed her father, Sanford Weill, who will become chairman emeritus after 30 years on the board and 20 years as its chairman.

Career:

Bibliowicz, who has been on the Weill Cornell board for 10 years, is senior adviser to the private equity firm Bridge Growth Partners. She was CEO of benefits and wealth management consulting company National Financial Partners from 1990 to 2013. She took the company public in 2003 and it was sold in 2013.

Her priorities:

Fundraising is a necessity as public sources of revenue shrink, she said. “You’ve got to look at the private sector when you think about the dollars that are needed to solve a lot of the disease dilemmas.”

On growth at Weill Cornell:

“I think the scariest word in this world of ours is maturity,” she said of the college’s investments in education, research and delivery in recent years. “There is no complacency. There is no maturity. We will continue to grow.”

On medical education in an era of health reform:

“It’s still very hard to see where healthcare reform is going to come out,” she said, adding that Weill Cornell continues to evaluate its curriculum to make sure it meets the demands of the marketplace.
