Nominations sought for annual Design Awards

Modern Healthcare is accepting entries for its 31st annual Design Awards competition.

Contemporary healthcare design has evolved far beyond dazzling facades, grand hotel-like entrances and healing gardens. Maximum functionality for professional staff, flexibility to accommodate changing service needs and patient-centric interior designs have become key priorities in healthcare architecture. Increasingly important is a building’s “sustainability,” focusing on energy consumption and environmentally sound construction processes.

The mission of this program is to recognize facilities that stand out in meeting those criteria. Gold, silver and bronze citations will be awarded. New this year is recognition of an “environmentally friendly” healthcare facility, one that, for example, demonstrates innovation in energy efficiency, choice of building materials and management of water consumption and other resources. The awards program also includes a category for a “senior-friendly” facility, one that includes a number of features and amenities to meet the needs of older patients.

The competition is open only to registered architects. All types and sizes of patient-care-related facilities are eligible, built or unbuilt. Nominated facilities can be in the U.S., a U.S. territory or another country.
