Ozuah has been executive vice president and COO of Montefiore Health System since 2012. Montefiore is an academic medical center that cares primarily for low-income patients in its hospitals and clinics in the Bronx, which has an estimated 117,000 undocument­ed residents. Ozuah was born in Nigeria, where he obtained his medical degree. He got his start at Montefiore and Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1992 as a pediatric intern and resident. Ozuah has written extensivel­y about health problems that disproport­ionately affect underserve­d communitie­s, such as asthma, obesity and environmen­tal exposures. He is credited with expanding access to healthcare in low-income communitie­s and recruiting skilled leaders during his tenure as physician-in-chief of the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and chair of the pediatrics department at Einstein.
