ONC, CMS brass to talk interopera­bility

AUG. 19: CMS Administra­tor Seema Verma delivers

the keynote address at the Strategic Health Informatio­n Exchange Collaborat­ive’s annual meeting. SHIEC is made up of more than 70 health informatio­n exchanges. “Our HIE community needs to work closely with CMS to achieve national interopera­bility goals, and we know that SHIEC member HIEs will play a significan­t role in achieving these goals,” SHIEC CEO Kelly Hoover Thompson said in a release announcing Verma’s speech.

AUG. 20: As earnings season winds down,

Premier is slated to announce its numbers before the markets open. Analysts are predicting a year-over-year drop in earnings on lower revenue for the group purchasing organizati­on and consultanc­y. Revenue is projected to be $433.02 million, down 0.2% from the same period last year.

AUG. 21-22: Back to interopera­bility,

the Office of the National Coordinato­r for Health Informatio­n Technology holds its 3rd Interopera­bility Forum in Washington, D.C. Keynote speakers include Dr. Simon Eccles, chief clinical informatio­n officer for the U.K.’s National Health Service; Dr. Amy Abernethy, principal deputy commission­er of food and drugs at the Food and Drug Administra­tion; and ONC head Dr. Donald Rucker. Our technology reporter, Jessica Kim Cohen, will monitor the plenary sessions to report on breaking news and to see if ONC officials offer any insights on the pending interopera­bility and data-blocking final rule.
