Huge bill is wasteful

- — Raymond Souza, Salinas

Another in your face from the socialistic Democrats and spineless Republicans who passed the COVID-19 relief bill. $600 for individuals is an insult to Americans and Trump should veto the bill because of the paltry amount, and the typical pork barrel nonsense that the Congress forces upon Americans. Millions of dollars to the Kennedy Art Center, millions for two more museums at the

Smithsonian. It goes on and on. Much more troubling is the $50 million for Cambodia, the $130 million for Vietnam, $33 million for Venezuela, not to even mention the $93 million for vehicles for Americans assisting in HIV work abroad, plus billions more in aid to other foreign countries. The $3 trillion would be much better utilized if applied to helping Americans here in America. The main focus and priority for Congress must be for Americans.

The relentless spending in this country by your Congress will continue unabated and will break us. The national debt is approaching $27 trillion. That’s 27 followed by 12 zeroes. To show the absurdity of 27 trillion, if the US paid back $1 billion per day against the debt, not including interest, it would require 74 years to pay off the debt. That right, 74 years! If interest is figured at 5% per year; according to your accounting methods; the interest alone after the 74 years could amount to an additional $75 to $100 trillion and this does not account for any negative spending by your Congress. Your debt portion is now $82,000 for every person in the U.S., so if you are a family of five, your share of the national debt is $410,000. If you are like me, you have children, grandchildren and perhaps great grandchildren. Damn, my family share of the debt is $2,378,000!

It is well past the time to institute term limits and remove career politicians from office, which in part would eliminate the servitude that many members of Congress have to foreign countries who do not have our interests in mind.
