Butterflies and baseball are back
Fall in Pacific Grove is a wonderful time but this year, it feels especially nice to be out and about and see so many businesses flourishing as they continue to recover from the past 18 months of uncertainty. The Herald published a story earlier this month about some very positive and encouraging news about the Monarch butterfly population in
PG. Another sign of hope and recovery of a different sort that is sure to delight locals and tourists alike. Where else can you visit a butterfly sanctuary and see thousands of butterflies? And that is only one of the draws to America’s Last Hometown. How about the unique shops and eateries that abound within walking distance of Lovers Point Park. On a recent visit downtown, we were able to patronize some local businesses and restaurants and show our support as we always do of the various communities in the area. We even got to enjoy a baseball game at the municipal field and watch grandson Brayden pitch like a champ and make an amazing catch in the infield. Although the breeze had us wrapping our too-thin jackets around us a little bit tighter, the sight of his ever-smiling (nearly teenage!) face always makes you feel warm all over. It felt good to be outdoors and watch the players enjoy their game and just be kids. It seemed a long time since we heard cheers and laughter and the cadence of “Hey batter batter!” We hope you enjoy our annual October PG Community Focus section, and that you are able to take a walk through town soon and check out all this quaint community has to offer be it shopping, sipping, people watching, or checking out the butterfly sanctuary. And if you happen upon a baseball game, take a minute to stop and cheer the kids on with a shout of “good eye!” or “nice catch!” which they always enjoy hearing.
Take care,
Dana
