Warriors' Summer League roster set

- By Alex Simon

It's not often that the defending NBA champions bring such a potentially intriguing roster to Summer League.

But as the Golden State Warriors embark on their “two timelines” plan, the month of July will be vital for their top young players to get some game action.

James Wiseman is likely to play, something he did only twice with the G League Santa Cruz Warriors in the 2021-22 season. The No. 2 overall pick from 2020 last appeared in an NBA game on April 10, 2021, and has missed 101 consecutive regular-season games as he recovers from a knee injury.

The Warriors will have seven games scheduled for the Summer League — two at Chase Center this weekend and then five in Las Vegas. Wiseman won't attempt to play until the Warriors head to Las Vegas.

Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody figure to get some extended game action after playing sporadically throughout the playoffs.

Among the Warriors' 2022 draft picks, the status of Patrick Baldwin Jr. remains the biggest mystery. Selected at No. 28, Baldwin is still rehabilitating an ankle injury that hampered his lone college season.

Both he and Ryan Rollins, the 44th pick, are expected to be on the Warriors' 2022-23 regular-season roster. Rollins will not participate this summer as he recovers from a stress fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot.

Golden State will host the California Classic this weekend. The Warriors will face the Kings on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and the Lakers at the same time on Sunday. The Heat will also play against the Lakers and Kings.
