Hessbrook paces Ithaca past Nouvel

Ithaca’s football program put on a show Friday night in its highly-anticipate­d week-one showdown versus visiting Saginaw Nouvel.

As it was the host Jackets raced out to a 21-7 lead at the half and never looked back en route to a 47-27 victory.

Senior quarterbac­k Brady Hessbrook tossed four touchdown passes in the win and ran in for two more.

He completed 14-of-27 passes for 204 yards and four scores and ran for 80-yards on 18 carries.

In the first he hit Derek Draher with a nine-yard scoring pass before connecting with Chad Pratt on a 14-yard score. Hessbrook then hit Jesse Sorsen with a fouryard score in the third before finding Zach Poff on a 25-yard score.

Chance Risner also returned a kickoff 75 yards for a score.

Poff had 53-yards rushing on four carries and caught seven passes for 118 yards.

Swan Valley 25, Alma 0 Miscues, mishaps and missed opportunit­ies.

On Friday night from Don Miller Field the Alma High School football team made too many mistakes in its season-opener versus Saginaw Swan Valley.

Intercepti­ons, high snaps and an untimely turnover in punt coverage just before the first half ended ultimately led Swan Valley past the hosts by a score of 25-0. It was the fourth-straight victory for the Vikings over the Panthers and eighth in the last nine years.

With a minute to play in the first half and the score tied at 0-0 Swan Valley covered a misplayed punt at the Alma two-yardline. Running back Ben Fordney ran it in to make it 6-0 at the half.

In the third quarter the Vikings put it away as Khyree Harris scored on a 19-yard run to make it 12-0 with 3:48 left in the frame. Swan Valley quarterbac­k Avery Goldensoph then raced in from eight-yards out to make it 18-0 with 10:58 left in the fourth.

Drew Kaeckmeist­er closed the scoring out at 25-0 with a TD reception from Goldensoph with 7:28 left in regulation.

Alma quarterbac­k TJ Arens went 9-for-19 passing for 81 yards.

He was intercepte­d twice. He also ran seven times for 15 yards.

David Apple led the receiving corps with three catches for 27 yards while Brandon Fandall had three catches for 24 yards. Cam

Wright rushed nine times for 21 yards also.

The Panthers return to action at Freeland next Friday. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

Harrison 36, Pinconning 13

The Harrison High School football team bashed and blasted its way past Pinconning at home Friday night, winning this Jack Pine opener by a final of 36-13.

For the night the Hornets racked up 442 yards while holding Pinconning to 111.

Logan Yost carried it 19 times for 133 yards while Ethan van Antwerp toted

it 16 times for 88 yards and two scores. Caleb Hoskey added in 12 carries for 68 yards and ran in three twopoint conversion­s.

Johnny Dumalo added in two scores and 43 yards on seven carries.

Hunter Davis completed 2-for-4 passes for the runhappy Hornets and finished with 35 yards passing. Logan Ashcroft had both catches for the hosts.

Tyler Lewandowsk­i had five tackles to lead the D while Andrew Erskine had four tackles, three which were for loss. Coleton Brand also had two tackles for loss.
