Mt. Pleasant Public Schools ( MPPS) is currently wrapping up work on series two of their bond projects.

“It’s been a multi-year process upgrading everything,” MPPS Superintendent Jennifer Verleger said. “We’re incredibly grateful to the community.”

The bond projects, which were around $30million were approved inmay 2016 with around $28 million already used to renovate school and athletic facilities as well as paying off a portion of the district’s bonds from 2007. Around $5 million was planned to be used in the series two bond work.

THE MPPS school board approved multiple upgrades for mt. Pleasant High School (MPHS) and Middle School (MPMS) as well as Pullen, Vowles, and mcguire Elementary Schools were approved in Jan. 2020. The upgrades were implemented over the 2020 summer.

“Our bond projects have been going well,” Verleger said. “They were not delayed because of the pandemic.”

Vowles and Mcguire received new flooring, Pullen and MPHS received upgraded classroom technology which includes projectors and sound systems among other items, and MPHS and MPMS received bathroom upgrades.

Safety upgrades were also given to Community Memorial Stadium and two new buses were added to MPPS.

“There are still smaller projects to finish but we’re at a point to see what other upgrades are needed,” Verleger said. “There’s always something, so we try to stagger work throughout the schools.”
