Not the best nor their best, but sometimes good enough gets the job done.

Case in point: On Thursday evening the reigning Highland Conference champions from Beal City played just well enough to beat visiting Leroy Pine River in a Highland Conference volleyball dual.

As it was the Aggies eked out game one 25-22 before senior smashers Macy Vondoloski and Sage Schumacher turned it on in game two and led the hosts to a 25-12 win. Serving specialist Hannah Benaske then stepped to the line in game three and helped the Aggies overcome a 21-19 deficit en route a 25-21 victory.

With the sweep the Aggies stay unbeaten on the season at 10- 0 overall all while bumping their Highland Conference marker to 7- 0. However, things could have gone the other way Thursday and will go the other way in the near future if Beal City continues to play like it

did Thursday.

“We’ve been up and down a lot this season,” said Beal City head coach Jade Kennedy, who

has led the Aggies to two conference and to two district titles in the last two years. “But every single time we done that, we’ve found a way to win so I applaud the girls for that.”

For the season the Aggies have won 30 of the 33 sets they have played, which is an amazing number. Coming out of Tuesday’s win at Houghton Lake the Aggies were looking to take down a solid Pine River team and did exactly that, yet it was a struggle at times. But, in truth, not every game or match is going to go as one wishes and to date the Aggies have yet to lose so they’re doing something right, right?

Schumacher led the Aggies with 14 kills while Vondoloski had 12. Benaske added in five aces and eight digs while Bailey Torpey had 24 assists and Eva Lynch eight digs.

The Aggies return to action at Mcbain Tuesday in what should be a key Highland Conference showdown between two of the favorites.
