A well- oiled machine.

That’s how the Mt. Pleasant Oiler football team is playing right now.

On Friday from Bay City Central the Oilers bumped their record to 2- 0 as they hammered the hosts by a score of 31-8.

The Oilers took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Mark Goenner scored on a 68-yard run. In the second stanza Kory Davis added in a four-yard TD to make it 13- 0 before Goenner ran in the conversion to make it 15- 0.

Anton Ricumstrict recorded a safety soon thereafter and the Oiler led 17-8 at the half.

In the third quarter quarterback Ryan Mcintyre hit Colton Dover with a 25-yard TD pass before Da-vee Abinojar scored on a three-yard run.

Mcintyre completed 7- of-10 passes for 129 yard and one score versus one interception. Caden Schlicht had three catches for 47 yards while Josh Schell caught two passes for 50 yards.

Goenner had an absolutemon-

ster night as he ran for 214 yards on 15 carries. Schlicht, Owen Cole, Ricumstrict and Tanner Payton each had interceptions for the Oilers also. Mt. Pleasant plays at Midland next Friday.

Clare 45, Pinconning 0

The Clare High School football program improved to 2- 0 Friday as it pounded Pinconning 45- 0.

The Pioneers took a 26- 0 by the half and then scored 19 in the second half.

Quarterback Jacob Recker had a night as he hit Dawson John with a 45yard TD pass to open the scoring for Clare (2- 0).

Recker then ran in rushing scores from 5, 12 and 4-yards out before Al Warner had a 4-yard TD run and matt Harton an 8-yard scamper. Beau Weldon added in a 16-yard TD.

Harton ran for 99 yards on eight carriess. Clare outgained Pinconning 409-14.

Freeland 14, Alma 10

Oh so close.

On Friday night the Alma High football team stayed close with host Freeland in a Tri-valley Conference contest, yet fell just short en route to a 14-10 defeat.

The Panthers (0-2) dominated in the opening seven minutes of play with the help of a turnover or two.

Freeland (1-1) fumbled away the opening kick and Alma’s David Apple cashed it in as he raced in from 11-yards out to make it 6- 0 right out of the chute.

Mason Stambaugh nailed the point-after attempt to make it 7- 0.

Freeland responded though as it scored with 16 seconds left in the first to make it 7-7. The Falcons took a 14-7 lead with 5:23 left in the second and looked to be on the cusp of pushing the lead to 21-7 late in the opening half. However, Apple intercepted a pass in the end zone to thwart that threat.

Cam Wright busted into the open on a 48-yard gallop in the third which set up a Stambaugh 29-yard field goal thatmade it 14-10with 9:06 left in the frame.

Thiswould be as close as it would get though as Alma failed to find pay dirt in the fourth quarter. The Panthers got down to the Falcon 12 early in the fourth frame, but got sacked on a 3-and-7 from the 12 and turned it over on downs.

Freeland took over at its own 20 with 7:53 left in regulation and ran out the clock from there.

TJ Arens completed 4- of-12 passes for 31 yards and was intercepted once. Wright had 65-yards rushing on 11 carries while Apple had two catches for 16 yards.

Shepherd 54, Farwell 6

That’s more like it.

One week removed from turning it over way too many times in a home loss to Clare the Shepherd Blue Jays hosted Farwell from Veteran’s Memorial Field Friday.

In the end the Jays (1-1) rolled too as they pounded the Eagles (0-2) by a final of 54- 6.

Quarterback Kaidan Andrews completed 16- of-22 passes for 265 yards and four touchdowns in thewin. He hit Tate Ross with an 18yard TD and Daron Bryant with a 52-yarder. Owen Morey also caught five passes for 75 yards. He also had a 25-yard TD catch. Ethan Deming also reeled in a 24yard scoring pass and finished with three receptions for 45 yards.

Bryant led the rushing attack with 52 yards on 11 carries. He also scored on a 10-yard rush. Logan Klumpp finished with one TD via a 15-yard run in the fourth.

Jaden Carll had six tackles and covered two fumbles. He also had a 35-yard scoop and score for Shepherd. Max Kyser chipped in seven tackles and intercepted two passes for Shepherd.
