Ithaca stuns Bullock Creek in an instant classic

When you’re trailing in the final minute of regulation and facing a 4th-and-16 what should you do?

Go deep of course.

That exactly what Ithaca did Friday against visiting Midland Bullock Creek and it worked to a tee. As it was Ithaca senior quarter back Brady Hessbrook hit zach Poff with a 23-yard touchdown score on 4th-and-16 with 1:02 left in regulation to lift the Jackets over Bullock Creek 39-38.

The game itself was a back-andforth affair from the onset and one heck of an entertaini­ng game.

The Lancers took a 7- 0 lead early in thefirst before Poff scored on a 32-yard run on the first play of the second to make it 7- 6. Riley Vernon nailed the PAT to tie the game.

Bullock Creek’s Peyton Brooks unbroke the tie with a 14-yard TD run tomake it 13-7 in favor of the visitors. However, Hessbrook tied it with a four-yard run at 13-13.

In the third Hessbrook hit Chad Pratt with a 10-yard scoring pass to make it 19-13 with 11 minutes left in the third. Bullock Creek answered though and took a 20-19 lead seven minutes later.

Hessbrook then hit Pratt with a 33-yard Td to make it 25-20 before they hooked up on the conversion to make it 27-20.

In the fourth the Lancers tied it at 27 before Ithaca’s Derek Dra-her scored on a two-yard scamper to give the hosts a 33-27 lead. Bullock Creek answered to claim a 34-33 lead with 3:09 left on the clock which set the stage for the dramatic finish.

Hessbrook completed 14- of-22 passes for 157 yards and three scores. He also rushed 13 times for 62 yards. Dra her had 11 carries for 67 yards while Pratt had three catches for 64 yards.

Portland St. Pats 46, Vestaburg 18

Vestaburg fell at home Friday, falling to Portland St. Pat’s 46-18.

The Wolverines had 246 yards

rushing in the game, led by Cole Dailey who had 105 yards on 12 carries. Hayden Palmer threw for 81 yards and one touchdown while Brennan Avery had two catches for 70 yards and one score, a 40-yarder.

Central Montcalm 19, Chippewa Hills 7

Chippewa Hills fell to 0-2 on the season Friday as it lost at home to Central Mont calm by a final of 19-7.

Logan Davis hit Gavin Miller with the Warriors’ lone score in the game, which came in the fourth quarter. Theywill try to rebound next week.
