They’re running away with it.

Figuratively, physically and literally.

On Tuesday afternoon from Hemlock High School both Ithaca cross country programs had a day as the boys’ and girls’ teams won the second Tri-valley West Conference jamboree in grand fashion.

As it was the Ithaca boys finished atop the seven-team field with 27 points, besting runner-up St. Louis by three. The Jacket boys also bested the Sharks by the same exact score on Sept. 15.

On the girls side the Lady Jackets finished first with 29 pointswhile St. Louis was second with 36.

Coming into the meet Ithaca’s boys teamwas ranked fifth in Division 3 while St. Louis was ranked seventh. Moreover, the Ithaca girls teamwas

ranked fourth in D3 while St. Louis was 10th.

In short Tuesday’s victory was a good win for Ithaca in that it beat a solid state-ranked squad in St. Louis.

To date Ithaca has now won two of the three scheduledtvc jamborees this fall and is in the driver’s seat when it comes to winning the conference title. The Ithaca girls are looking to repeat while the boys are looking for their first TVCWEST title since 2017.

The Jackets can wrap up the title on Oct. 13 at Carrollton, yet there’s a lot of time between then and now and a lot of things can happen.

Just ask Ithaca head coach Gene Lebron, who’s both optomistic and realistic.

“Most years we’d have it mostly sealed up,” said Lebron. “But this is Covid-year.”

Braxton Lamey won the boys race in 17:00 while Lani Bloom won the girls race in 18:20.

Ithaca and St. Louis return to action at the Shepherd Blue Jay Invite this weekend.
