Mt. Pleasant Bowlers Hall of Fame ceremony honors four

This Sunday, Oct. 11 at the Lincoln Reception Center, the MP Bowlers Hall of Fame inducts four new members in Cindy Bollman, Jerry Fountain, Steve Recker and Neil Strong.

Every Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony is a unique event. Even if you don’t know any of the inductees personally, those that accept this induction honor generally show true emotion, humility and gratitude. Attendance is well worth the price of admission. This is the 37th Induction Ceremony for themount Pleasant Bowlers Hall of Fame and they do an excellent job of putting on an event to remember. (Social hour starts at noon with dinner a 1 p.m. served by Jenny’s Catering and all appropriat­e COVID-19 precaution­s will be taken.)

• Portland Lumberjack­s Win 2020 PBA League: Elias Cup Defending champion Portland Lumberjack­s have retained the prestigiou­s Elias Cup. The Phoenix Fury, who made PBA history as the first all-woman team to win a match in the PBA League, advanced to Monday’s Carter Division semifinals, but were eliminated by the second-seeded, Dallas Strikers. The Lumberjack­s defeated the Las Vegas High Rollers to win

back-to-back PBA League Elias Cup championsh­ips. Portland successful­ly defended their title defeating the expansion Las Vegas franchise, 3-2, in a best- of-five championsh­ip match series. In game one, Las Vegas took an early lead, winning 252197, but Portland made necessary adjustment­s rebounding to win games two and three with scores of 278-218 and 235-210. Las Vegas made a lineup change in game four winning 235-220 to force a must win game five for the championsh­ip. Portland’s Kris Prather sealed the win in the ninth frame with a strike to secure the team’s back-toback win. Final score of 257-197. Wes Malott, Portland’s anchor player, won back-to-back MVP honors, making history winning the title twice in a row. Malott helped bring home the Elias Cup last

year and can’t wait to defend the 2020 Elias Cup at Bayside Bowl in 2021.
