Farwell schools start work on new elementary wing
Farwell Area Schools officials broke ground Monday on the new elementary school wing that will replace the 1949 portion of the current school.
“We are very excited to see this project come to fruition,” said Farwell Area Schools Superintendent Steve Scoville as he addressed the parents, community members and local elected officials at the groundbreaking ceremony today.
“This is the last of the major work to be done as part of the bond proposal project and is desperately needed to continue to ensure the health and safety of the children in our community.”
The construction of the new wing is a result of the approved 2019 bond proposal that consists of a 2.1 mill renewal and a .9 mill increase for the homeowners in the Farwell school district.
With the elementary school wing replacement comes:
• Six new larger and more modern rooms
• Updated playground and fencing
• Improved elementary wing parking lot and student drop- off location
• New HVAC systems in all three school buildings
• Energy efficient boilers in the high school and elementary school
• Secure entrances for all buildings
• Modern P. A. and fire alarm systems
“Being able to offer a single location for child care, preschool and K-12 education in Farwell helps to meet the needs of the hardworking families in the community,” said Farwell Area Schools Alumand State Representative Jason Wentworth.
Farwell Area Schools selected Johnson Controls through a competitive bid process to execute the entire project, which guarantees the district $2.2 million in energy efficiency and operational savings.
“We are pleased to partner with the Farwell school system and provide a holistic approach to address their building upgrade needs,” said Rami Haddad, performance infrastructure account executive with Johnson Controls.
