Clare records 11 new cases of COVID-19

Tuesday was the second day in the last two weeks where clare County’s announced new coVID-19 case swere in the double digits. Another 11 confirmed cases of the disease were announced during the afternoon update by themichiga­n Department of Health and Human Services.

It brings the county’s cumulative number of cases to 151, with another 18 probable cases.

The county has seen a large number of new cases in the last week and a half, with 10 new cases announced last Wednesday. The county’s cumulative cases that day stood at 115, meaning the county’s cases have increased by 31.6 percent since. Since then, 15more cases were announced Monday, but that covered the entire weekend, a 7.5 daily average.

The county also had two more deaths last week, bringing its number to six.

An explanatio­n for the cases wasn’t immediatel­y available. An inquiry was sent to Central Michigan District health department that wasn’t answered by press time.

By contrast, just three new cases were reported each in Isabella and Gratiot counties. Isabella

County’s cumulative cases increased to 765, with 15 deaths. Gratiot’s increased to 314, with 16 deaths.

Elsewhere in mid-michigan, sixmore caseswere announced inmecosta County for a cumulative total of 293, with three deaths; 10 cases in Montcalm County for a cumulative total of 388, with seven deaths; one more case in Gladwin County for a cumulative total of 117, with two deaths; and three more cases in Midland County for a cumulative total of 614, with 13 deaths.

Statewide, 30 deaths were announced, with 10 of those discovered during a review of vital records. A total of 6,928Michiga­nders have died of COVID-19. The state announced another 1,237 cases for a cumulative total of 137,702. Michigan’s case fatality rate— the ratio of confirmed cases that results in death — has fallen to 5 percent.
