Suspect charged with sex crimes against children
A Mt. Pleasant man was charged Thursday with sex crimes involving children, including two counts of first- degree criminal sexual conduct.
Eric Steven Mcveigh, 39, ofmt. Pleasant, was charged for crimes that took place on or about June 1, 2016, according to a criminal complaint. In addition to the two counts of first- degree CSC, he was charged with two counts of seconddegree CSC and accosting for immoral purposes.
CSC-1 carries a maximum life sentence, CSC-2 is a 15-year felony and accosting for immoral purposes is a four-year felony.
Mcveigh is accused of having raped the 10-year- old son of a former romantic partner in Union Township and Shepherd between 2016 and 2017,
said Isabella County Sheriff Michael Main, in an email. The two broke up in 2017
The report originated with the Clare County Sheriff’s Office, and was
then turned over to the Isabella County Sheriff’s Office, Main said. Mcveigh admitted during an interview with officers.
As is common practice, the police affidavit from the investigation was moved. to the non-public section of the court file.
He was arrested by deputies from the Isabella
County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday and arraigned Wednesday.
He is scheduled for a preliminary exam on Oct. 29. If, at his preliminary exam, enough evidence is presented to establish probable cause of guilt, he will be bound over from district court to circuit court to face trial.
