Beal City falls tomcbain in clash of 4-0 teams
It was one of the bigger games in the state Friday and it lived up to its billing.
As it was long-time Highland Conference rivals Mcbain and Beal City renewed their rivalry Friday with a lot on the line.
Firstly, the Ramblers came into the game unbeaten and ranked seventh in Division 7. Beal City entered the home fray also unbeaten and ranked eighth in Division 8. Secondly, this is always a game for conference bragging rights and in the end Mcbain took them home this time around via a 23-19 win.
The Aggies (4-1) took a 19-17 lead with 8:02 left in the fourth quarter when quarterback Jake Gross hit Ben Matthews with a 22-yard TD pass.
However, it didn’t hold as Mcbain’s Austin Eling scampered 76-yards for a score 21 seconds later to close the scoring out.
Beal City took a 13- 0 lead after Gross hit Marcus Kent with a 26-yard scoring pass in the first andmatt Oswald with an 11-yard TD in the second. Back-to-back Mcbain TDS gave it a 14-13 halftime lead before it tacked on a field goal to make it 17-13 heading into the fourth.
Gross completed 10- of- 15 passes for 127 yards and three scores. Oswald had three catches for 54 yards while Matthews had three catches for 42. Kent also had three catches for 31 yards.
Cade Block finished with 91 yards rushing on 15 carries while Matthews had 68 yards on 14 carries.
St. Louis30, MLS17
St. Louis’ football program notched its second win of the 2020 campaign Friday at Michigan Lutheran Seminary.
The Sharks (2-3) led 18-15heading into the fourth quarter and sealed it with a pair of scores to win 30-17.
Lukemaxwell picked up a fumble and rumbled 52-yards for a score early in the fourth before Trae Garcia took it to the house from 95-yards out later in the fourth.
Garcia had a night as he also had rushing scores from 34 and
11 yards out. He carriedit 27 times for 227 yards.
Andrew Taipalus also caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Reece Giles in the second quarter.
Thomas Zacharko had two interceptions while Cade Pestrue contributed an interception and one sack.
Taipalus also added in an interception for the Sharks.
Marion 40, Vestaburg 6
The Vestaburg High School 8-man football team fell to Marion by a final of 40-6 Friday.
Cole Daily led thewolverines with 89-yards rushing and one score.
Collin Diehl had eight rushes for 28 yards while Hayden Palmer was 4-for-10 passing for 45 yards.
