Balanced attack lifts Alma over John Glenn

Score, score, score.

The Alma High School football team scored in every phase during its homecoming game versus Bay City John Glenn from Don Miller Field Friday night.

The Panthers scored two offensive touchdowns in the first half and then added in a defensive TD and special teams score in the second half en route to a 28-7 victory.

With the win Alma improves to 2- 3 overall while Bay City John Glenn falls to 1- 4.

The Panthers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Jacob Torrez ran it in from 14-yards out on Alma’s second offensive play of the night. Cam Wright took Alma’s first offensive play 53 yards to set up Torrez’s TD.

Mason Stambaugh hit the PAT to make it 7- 0. He went 4-for- 4 in point-after attempts on the night.

Wright closed the first half scoring out at 14- 0 with a fiveyard scamper with 48 seconds left in the first half.

Landon Bethka pushed the lead to 21-0 when he intercepte­d a pass and returned it 61 yards in the third quarter.

David Apple then closed the scoring out with a 35-yard punt return for score.

Wright finished with 92 yards on 13 carries while Torrez had 28 yards on five carries. Quarterbac­k TJ Arens also carried it six times for 49 yards while Brendan Everdeen had 10 yards on five carries.

Arens completed 2- of- 6 passes for 88 yards. Apple had one catch for 64 yards while Brandon Fandell had one catch for 24 yards.

The Panthers close the regular season out Friday at Midland Bullock Creek.

Shepherd 12, Pinconning 7

Turnovers usually lead to loses, but sometimes...

On Friday night from Veteran’s Memorial Field the Shepherd High School football team overcame four turnovers to hold off visiting Pinconning 12-7 in a Jack Pine Conference contest.

The Jays (2-2) fumbled it away three times and were intercepte­d once, yet their defense was up to the task as it limited to Pinconning to only 79 yards of offense in the game.

Quarterbac­k Kaidan Andrews had a night as he completed 21- of- 35 passes for 242 yards and two TDS versus one intercepti­on.

He hit Jaden Carll with a 10yard TD pass and Owen Morey with a one-yard TD pass. Carll finished with four catches for 25 yards while Morey had five catches for 25 yards.

Ethan Deming led the receiving corps with five receptions for 103 yards.

Daron Bryant led the defense with seven tackles while Maddox Woods had six tackles and two sacks.

Morey also had six tackles and one sack.

Shepherd gained 330 yards in the win.
