Search begins for next chief diversity officer

The search for Central Michigan University’s next vice president and chief diversity officer is underway, led by committee co- chairs Senior Vice Provost Julia Johnson and Interim Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer Stan Shingles.

The vice president and chief diversity officer will play a key role in advancing CMU’S goal to become a more inclusive institutio­n. The person selected for the position will develop and implement a plan to further a diverse, inclusive and welcoming environmen­t for all students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members.

Search firm DHR Internatio­nal will assist in the nationwide search. Other committee members are:

• Miracle Berry, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force and Student Government Associatio­n member.

• Ahsha Davis, graduate student.

• Jennifer Dehaemers, vice president, student recruitmen­t and retention.

• Laura Gonzales, community member.

• Eltaro Hooper, civil rights and Title IX investigat­or, Office of Civil Rights and Institutio­nal Equity.

• Anne Hornak, faculty, educationa­l leadership.

• Melanie Dawn Nelson, faculty, communicat­ion sciences and disorders.

• Brett Houle, former vice president, Student Government Associatio­n.

• Alejandra Rengifo, faculty, world languages and cultures.

• Erik Rodriguez, public relations manager, Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.

• Alan Rudy, faculty, sociology, anthropolo­gy and social work.

• Alejandro Salais, undergradu­ate student.

• James Span Jr., director, Multicultu­ral Academic Student Services.

President Bob Davies appointed Shingles to serve as interim vice president and chief diversity officer, after A.T. Miller stepped down from the role in late August.
