Oilers’ Schell and Ricumstrict taking it to next level
They’re taking their games to the next level.
The Division I level. On Wednesday Mt. Pleasant High School senior football players Josh Schell and Anton Ricumstrict announced their path going forward.
As it was Schell announced he was going to play football at West Point for the Army football team starting next fall while Ricumstrict will take his game to the University at Buffalo next fall where he will re-unite with his father George, who coaches the defensive line for the Bulls.
Buffalo plays in the Mid-american Conference championship game Friday night against Ball State from Ford Field in Detroit.
Both played on the defensive line for the Oilers in 2020 and had standout seasons.
Schell, who stands in at 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds, was unstoppable at defensive end this season as he was constantly in the offensive backfield creating havoc. He had over 20 Division I offers on the table and is the son of Mt. Pleasant boys basketball coach Dan Schell, who played both baseball and basketball at CMU in the 1990s.
Schell finished with 48 tackles this fall and earned first-team AllSVL honors. He also caught five passes for 79 yards and rushed it three times for 26 yards. He was a three-year starter for the Oilers and is expected to play on the defensive line at Army.
Ricumstrict is projected to play at linebacker or safety for the Bulls after playing on the Oiler defensive line this year. The 6-foot- 5 and 230-pound Ricumstrict tallied 56 tackles and had two interceptions for Mt. Pleasant in 2020.
