Five new deaths from COVID-19 were reported in mid-michigan Wednesday afternoon, with four of them in one county.

That was Isabella County, where the total numbers of deaths increased to 51.

No information was immediately available about the people who died. A media request was filed with Central Michigan District Health Department, but no one had answered it by press time.

That has not been unusual since the middle of November, when deaths started to climb. There is a lag between new cases and deaths of approximately two weeks, and at the time cases across Michigan were rising.

The other death reported by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services was in Clare County, bringing its total to 45.

Clare County is one of the six counties that are part of CMDHD, and the request seeking information about the Isabella County deaths also inquired about the one reported in Clare County.

An additional 24 cases were reported in Isabella County, bringing its cumulative total to 3,212; and an additional five cases were reported in Clare County, bringing its cumulative total to 1,127.

No new deaths were reported in Gratiot County, where the total number of deaths remains at 78. An additional eight cases were reported, bringing its cumulative total to 2,251.

Elsewhere in mid-michigan, no new deaths were reported in any of the four counties, with totals and cumulative cases as follows:

• In Gladwin County, an additional 12 cases were reported for a cumulative total of 1,086, with 12 deaths;

• In Mecosta County, an additional 13 cases were reported for a cumulative total of 1,637, with 14 deaths;

• In Midland County, an additional 51 cases were reported for a cumulative total of 3,687, with 47 deaths; and

• In Montcalm County, an additional three cases were reported for a cumulative total of 2,890, with 70 deaths.

Statewide, another 51 deaths were reported since Wednesday for a total of 12,918, and another 4,326 cases were reported Monday for a cumulative total of 508,736.
