Some spectators can attend fall postseason events
Stands won’t be empty when football and volleyball playoffs resume over the next week.
The Michigan High School Athletic Association announced on Wednesday that limited spectators will be permitted to football and volleyball postseason events, beginning with Saturday’s football regionals.
The MHSAA received approval from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Servicesto do so.
Football teams will receive 125 tickets to be divided among game participants for purchase by immediate family members via the Gofan digital ticketing platform. Volleyball teams will receive 50 tickets to be purchased in the same format.
Spectators from different households must be spaced out by six feet and maintain distancing at all other times including arrival and departure from the facility. Spectators will also be required to wear face masks at all times.
The girls swimming & diving finals will not have spectators.
The MHSAA said that swim finals meet include a much higher number of participants and that adding spectators would push the total number of people in attendance past what is considered safer for indoor events.
Regional championships for 11-player football will resume on Saturday, with the state semifinals taking place on Jan. 16 and the state finals being held on Jan. 22-23. The 8-player semifinals are Saturday with the state championships being held on Jan. 16.
Volleyball holds its quarterfinal matches on Tuesday, Jan. 12, with the state semifinals and finals being held from Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek on Jan. 14-16.
The diving state finals will be held on Jan. 15, while the swimming finals will be held on Jan. 16.
All three swimming & diving finals, as well as the volleyball semifinals and finals will be streamed live on MHSAA.TV. FOX Sports Detroit will broadcast all 11-player football finals.
