Baseball sweeps road series at Wabash

The Alma College baseball team won all three of its games in a weekend series at Wabash College by scores of 4-0, 11-6, and 107. Dylan Dzendzel pitched a complete game shutout while giving up only four hits and striking out four in game one. Jayden Drake earned his first career win on the mound by throwing 8.1 innings in game two. In the final game on Sunday, Joshua Robinson had a great day at the plate, hitting 3-for-5 while driving in four runs for Alma

STUNT Dominates Tiffin

The Alma College STUNT team shut out the Tiffin University Dragons, 21-0, on Sunday. Alma scored the maximum amount of points on every routine throughout the match. The Scots swept the first, second, and third periods all by scores of 4-0. In the final period, where three routines are performed and a team can accumulate a maximum of three points on each routine, Alma took the maximum nine points to finish off the perfect day.

Men’s Tennis Earns First Win of the Season

The Alma College men’s tennis team swept Concordia University Ann Arbor, 9-0, in the Scots’ home opener at the Stone Recreation Center on Thursday. The Scots quickly dispatched the Cardinals in the doubles matches with Brandon Ralston and Thomas Manko winning at first doubles, 8-1. Caleb Schuring and Brendon Murdie won second doubles, 8-2. Walter Michaels and Merrick Bay won at third doubles, 8-1. Ralston, Schuring, Manko, Murdie, and Michaels all won their singles matches while Tait Morrissey stepped in at sixth singles and won, 6-1, 6-1.

Men’s Lacrosse Beats Bulldogs, Falls to Britons

The Alma College men’s lacrosse team earned its first win of the season on Tuesday by a score of 11-7 over Adrian College. Connor Alley and Ezra Leppanen both netted four goals in the game while Parker Macco earned his first career win in net with eight saves. Alma would then lose to Albion College on Saturday.

Women’s Tennis goes 1-1 on the week

The Alma College women’s tennis team rolled past the Concordia Ann Arbor University Cardinals on Thursday, 9-0. In doubles action, senior Brooke Butterfiel­d and junior Abigail Davenport earned an 8-3 victory over their opponents. Lucy Mccarthy and Amanda Szymborski won their match 8-1.

The final doubles match saw Elizabeth Hill and Emily Mcdonald defeat their Cardinal opponents 8-0. The Scots were also dominant in the singles matches. Butterfiel­d, Mccarthy, Szymborski, and Davenport all won in straight sets. Junior Emma Lloyd and sophomore Summer Stoldt were also winners in straight sets. Alma then fell on Saturday to St. Mary’s College.

Softball starts season

The Alma College softball team split both of its doublehead­ers to start the season this weekend.

On Saturday at Franklin, Alma loss, 10-3, then won, 7-3. Hadyn Terwillige­r had a three-hit game in the win. Then on Sunday at Mount St. Joseph, the Scots won the opening-game, 5-1, then loss the second game, 6-2.

Haley Ullrich pitched a complete game in the opener, allowing zero earned runs on three hits while striking out six batters. Emma Fraser hit a ball over the right field wall for Alma’s first home run of the season. Ullrich then closed it out to seal the victory.

Women’s Lacrosse drops one to Trine

The Alma College women’s lacrosse team lost to Trine University, 15-9. Five members of the Scots scored goals with Sam Peterson leading the way with three on the night. Lauren Kenny and Alyssa Gall tied with two goals each. Johnna Pullen and Emma Keith each scored one. Allie Ray made 11 saves in net.

Bowling Competes at Raider Classic

The Alma College bowling team competed at the Roto Grip Raider Classic on Saturday.

The Scots bowled a total score of 4,912 to place ninth in the tournament. Aaliyah Wilson, bowling for the Scots’ JV squad, was the performer of the day for the Scots.

Wilson placed ninth on the individual leaderboar­d while averaging 211.67 per game. Her highest game was a 232.

Women’s Basketball comes up short in MIAA Tournament

The Alma College women’s basketball team lost against Calvin University, 69-63, in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Monday.

Taylor Sas was a force to be reckoned with on both sides of the ball, earning a double-double on the night. She scored 19 points, got 11 rebounds, one assist, and two steals. Sas also went 4-of-5 at the free throw line tonight.

The Scots end their season with an 8-7 record and their third-straight trip to the postseason.

Men’s Basketball season ends in postseason

The Alma College men’s basketball lost to Trine University in the first round of the MIAA Tournament. The Thunder would go onto win the conference tournament later in the week. Cole Kleiver led the team with 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting while Isaiah Williamson added 10 points.

Women’s Swimming and Diving finishes off season at conference championsh­ips

The Alma College women’s swimming and diving team placed fifth at the MIAA Championsh­ips.

In the 800 yard freestyle relay, the team of Sarah Gaines, Abby Taylor, Allison Brown, and Grace Warmbier finished in 5th place with a time of 8:26.01. Brown was also a part of the 5th place 200 yard freestyle relay team along with Jennifer Ostrowski, Danielle Ries, and Emily Diener. The four finished with a time of 1:43.33.

Finally, the team of Brown, Ries, Ostrowski, and Sydney Moe finished in 6th place in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:13.34.

Ostrowski also placed eighth in the 100-yard breaststro­ke with a time of 1:09.78. Alma also took sixth in the 400 yard free relay.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field completes indoor season at MIAAS

The Alma College men’s and women’s track and field team competed at MIAA Championsh­ips.

On Friday, the women placed fifth in the team standings. Junior Bailey Hoffman followed up her school record-breaking performanc­e last week in the weight throw by breaking it again.

She finished in second place in the event with a toss of 15.79 meters. n the 800-meter run, sophomore Cornelia Gotaas finished in fourth place with a time of 2:23.32. Gotaas was also a part of the distance medley relay team along with Davis, Hearth, and Haley Trickey.

They finished in fifth place with a time of 13:47.23.

On Saturday, the men placed seventh.

Nolan Rowland earned second place in the pole vault by clearing the 3.95-meter bar. Ross Mcneel had a personal-best indoor time of 52.86 seconds in the 400-meter. Mcneel just missed the top 8 by .006 seconds.

The Distance Medley Relay team of Cliff Maginity, Hunter Chovanec, Jacob Campbell, and Colton Chovanec earned points for the Scots with their seventhpla­ce finish.
