Mount Pleasant Patriot’s 12UB team advances to state tourney
The Mount Pleasant Patriot 12UB hockey team scored 42 goals last weekend en route to the District 5 tournament title in Bay County.
With the district trophy in tow the Patriots also earn one of eight spots in the State Finals from Crystal Fieldhouse Ice Arena in Burton on April 23-25. The last time this program competed in the finals was in 2018.
Over the weekend the Patriots went 5-0 to claim the title.
They opened with a 6-1 win over Bay County #2 before besting Saginaw #2 by a final of 16-1. Mt. Pleasant then scored a 7-2 win over Midland #2 to lock up the top seed in their pool.
On Sunday the Patriots then locked up the title by besting Port Huron 6-3 and Gladwin 7-1 in the finale.
Trent Gilbert and Easton Vanalstine both led the offense while Bryce Cahoon was the top assist-man.
Ethan Wernick also had a solid weekend.
Goalie Aden Wheaton allowed six goals in five games and was great in net.
The roster consists of: #4 Bryce Cahoon, #5 Noah Bruursema, #8 Ethan Wernick, #9 Clara Liedke, #10 Matthew Chilcote, #12 Maeson Russell, #14 Margaret Lux, #15 Trey Murphy, #17 Easton Vanalstine, #18 Trent Gilbert, #19 Gegek Webkamigad, #24 Graham Moeggenborg, and #29 Aden Wheaton. They are coached by Blaine Chilcote (head coach), Chris Liedke, and Rick Cahoon.
The Mt. Pleasant Patriots are under the non-profit organization Amateur Hockey Association of Mt. Pleasant and open to skaters 5-18 with teams at all levels, from learn to play to 18U. They skate out of the ICE Arena in Mt. Pleasant.
