Central Michigan University Athletic Director Amy Folan announced the firing of head men’s basketball coach Keno Davis on Monday morning.

Davis spent the last nine years as head coach of the Chippewas and compiled a record of 142-143 overall and a Mid-american Conference mark of 62-94.

His best season was 2014-15 when the Chippewas won the MAC West Division by going 12-6 all while going 23-9 overall.

Overall, the program captured two MAC West Championships during Davis’ tenure, but did not make the NCAA Tournament.

CMU did appear in four postseason tournaments (NIT in 2015); Collegeinsider.com in 2016 and 2018) and the College Basketball Invitational (2019).

“I am extremely grateful to Keno for the impact he has made on our student-athletes and the greater CMU community,” Folan said in a press release.

“Decisions like this are always difficult. However, after spending the last few months evaluating all aspects of our program, I believe it is necessary and appropriate to make a change in leadership at this time to achieve the goals we have for men’s basketball.”

The Chippewas went 7-16 overall and 3-13 in MAC play in 202021, including an upset of regular season conference champion Toledo in the first round of the MAC Tournament.

Davis signed a five-year extension with CMU in September, 2019.

The contract was set to run through the 2023-24 season.

His base salary was $319,923, plus $100,000 for TV and radio appearances.

Davis is owed a $400,000 buyout.

He was 28-5 in one season as Drake University head coach in 2007-08, leading the program to the NCAA Tournament.

Davis then went 46-50 in four season at Providence.

His overall college coaching record is 216-98.

CMU has opened a national search for a new head coach with the assistance of DHR International.
