The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced on Monday ongoing outbreaks at Alma High School, affecting four students, and St. Louis High School, affecting six students.

Last week, the MDHHS reported a five-student outbreak at Montabella High School, but that it no longer listed on the state website.

Sixteen new cases and one death were reported in Gratiot County on Wednesday, bringing its cumulative total number of confirmed cases to 2,769 and 103 deaths.

In Isabella County, 61 new confirmed cases were reported on Wednesday for a total of 4,525 cases, with 79 deaths.

The Mt. Pleasant area had spent six days atop a New York Times list of fastest-growing outbreaks. As of Wednesday, it had fallen out of the top 20. That doesn’t mean the current surge in cases appears to be abating, only that the rate at which is it spreading is not significan­tly higher than what it was last week.

It remains seventh on the Times’ list of worst outbreaks in the nation.

An additional 27 cases were reported in Clare County on Wednesday, bringing its cumulative total to 1,7078, with 69 deaths.

Elsewhere in mid-michigan, two new deaths were reported, with new and cumulative cases and deaths as follows from over the weekend:

• In Gladwin County, an additional 20 new confirmed cases were reported for a cumulative total of 1,626, with 40 deaths;

• In Mecosta County, an additional 21 cases were reported for a cumulative total of 2,499, with 25 deaths;

• In Midland County, two deaths were reported for a total of 72, with an additional 58 new cases for a cumulative total of 5,693; and,

• In Montcalm County, an additional 69 cases were reported for a cumulative total of 4,301, with 91 deaths.

Statewide, 74 new deaths were reported for a total of 16,586 and another 8,867 cases were reported for a cumulative total of 756,564.
