‘No child concentration camps in Alma’

-

I am writing to express moral outrage over the planned child concentration camp.

First, the previous letters to the editor were racist, xenophobic and inaccurate. However our goals align: no child concentration camps in Alma.

Federal agents on the southern border kidnap children and traffic them across the country to be incarcerated by Christian missionaries who may rape them. Is the year 1521 or 2021?

Due to Title 42 and the denial of all familiar transfers of custody at the border, federal agents kidnap children. Title 42 also denies entry to almost all adults and immediate deportation for all illegal entries. Thus our immigration systems do not have the resources to continue to kidnap and incarcerate children; they need new resources, such as a new concentration camp in Alma.

By trafficking the children to Alma from the southern border, the Department of Homeland Security further separates these families. Most take years to locate their child — if they have help inside the U.S.

These camps are secretive but their employees leak information. We know that sexual assault and squalid conditions are common and that incarceration lasts for an average of 40 days (far longer than the average at child services despite much better funding).

This camp is an expansion of the system and will harm both the children inside and all immigrants outside this camp. This is missionary genocide — 21 miles away from the Mount Pleasant Indian Industrial Building. Missionary genocide against children is mid-michigan’s history. No more.
