Potential threat against school found uncredible
Threat at Mt. Pleasant Middle School was shared on social media
After investigating a potential threat of violence against Mt. Pleasant Middle School (MPMS), law enforcement found no credible threat against the school.
The threat was shared on social media on Dec. 8 and immediately reported. Mt. Pleasant Public School (MPPS) and law enforcement were quickly able to investigate the threat.
Though the threat was found to be uncredible, additional police presence was at MPMS throughout the day in order to reassure the staff and students.
“We will continue to take any threat very seriously and will investigate the sources,” a letter from MPMS Principal Darby Weaver said. “We have zero tolerance for threats, intimidation, harassment or violence at Mt. Pleasant Public Schools. As we move forward, we will continue to ask for you to remind your children that engaing in threatening behavior or bringing a weapon to school can result in serious consequences including expulsion from school.”
The letter also encourages students to understand the importance of reporting threatening behavior that can occur in school, after school, or on social media.
“We want to make sure our students feel comfortable reporting any potential threats to a trusted adult,” the letter said. “In this situation today, we were able to quickly investigate the potential threat due to students reporting the concerns to MPMS Administrators. We are very grateful for the responsible students who reported this information.”
