Julia Anna (Vojtas) Denman, age 97, of Alma, passed away February 16, 2023, at Country Friends Assisted living, surrounded by her Country Friends family. Julia was born on February 6, 1926, to Paul and Johanna (Kovleck) Vojtas in Pleasant Valley Michigan. Her family moved to Alma when she was very young. She attended the Ely School, a one room schoolhous­e, where she met Paul Andrew Denman. They were married in 1944 and enjoyed 51 years together raising three daughters. Julia is survived by two daughters, Josie (Don) Walworth of Alma, and Susan Alspaugh Denman of Alma, four grandchild­ren, Bradley (Humberto) Walworth of Chicago, Tara (Nicholas) Fortino of South Lyon, MI, Eric Walworth of Muskegon, and Shaun Klich of Detroit, three great granddaugh­ters, Keira and Aria Fortino of South Lyon and Iris Marshall of Stanton, and several nieces and nephews. Julia was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alma Michigan and previously of St. Paul’s Apostle Catholic Church in Ithaca. She was predecease­d by her husband Paul in 1995, her youngest daughter Teresa Denman Moomey and a grandson Mitchell Klich in 1995. She was also predecease­d by her parents, five brothers: John, Paul, Joseph, Anthony (Virginia), George (Katherine) Vojtas, and five sisters: Anna Hurosky, Johanna Raducha, Josephine Shirley, Sophie Bupp and Mary (John) Gager. Julia was known as the cake lady by many. She took pride and enjoyed decorating cakes and holiday cookies for every special occasion. She was active in her church for many years helping with benefit dinners. She enjoyed crafts, shopping, gardening, and playing cards with her family and friends. Decorating her yard for the Christmas Holidays was one of her favorites which she would start in October. She was especially known for her very large Sunday dinners where everyone was welcome. She will be greatly missed by many. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 20, 2023, at 11 am at Nativity of the Lord Parish, Mt. St. Joseph Site in St. Louis. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Alma. Visitation will be held from Monday from 10 am until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic School. Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to the care of the Lux-moody-wolfel Funeral Home, Alma.
