-

Dr. David Neal Charping, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully February 19, 2023 at his home in Harrison, Michigan which he shared with his wife of 40 years, Lynn Marie (Collison). Dave was born in Berea, Ohio on November 23, 1952 to Jesse and Ima Jean (Hester) Charping. Although originally from the Midwest, he was very proud of his southern heritage. He attended the University of South Carolina as an undergraduate and continued his education at the Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He became a Doctor of Chiropractic in 1980 and practiced his profession in Alma, Michigan for almost 40 years before retiring “to the lake” in 2018 where he spent many hours enjoying his pontoon (The “Friend Ship”), a round of golf or two and the company of friends and family. Dave and Lynn were blessed with two children, Justin (Rachel) and Amanda a/k/a (Max) and two grandchildren, Noah and Natalie Charping, who are left to cherish Papa’s puns, jokes and stories. Dave may not have invented the “Dad Joke” but he certainly took it to a new level. The greatest joy in his life was spending time with those he loved. Dave enjoyed traveling, whether on family vacations to Disney or annual trips to the Caribbean. He was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. He was an accomplished musician and played the drums professionally in his younger years. He never missed an opportunity to sing at Karaoke. He could fix practically anything. After retiring he spent a great deal of time in the kitchen perfecting his culinary skills and truly became a gourmet chef. He had a lifelong devotion to studying and teaching the Bible. A man of faith, he was proud of the fact that he had memorized all one hundred fifty Psalms. Dave’s commitment to God was truly inspirational to those who knew him. In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren he is survived by three sisters, Linda (Richard) Beeson of Landrum, South Carolina, Gloria (Gary) Dackor of Pinehurst, North Carolina and Wanda Charping of Chapin, South Carolina. He is also survived by brothers and sisters in law, Jeffrey (Cindy) Collison, Joseph (Martha) Collison, Daniel (Kimberley) Collison, Patrick Collison and Dawn Brandon, Christine (Gary) Clements and Charles (Susan) Collison and many nieces and nephews.
