GIBSON, DOUGLAS MICHAEL
Douglas Michael Gibson, age 83, of Six Lakes passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at the Laurels of Mt. Pleasant. Douglas was born in Saginaw on March 2, 1939, the son of John and Beatrice (Lower) Gibson. He grew up in Bridgeport and Shields, before moving to Montcalm County, where he lived in Vestaburg. Douglas attended school in Shields, Vestaburg, and then the Cedar Lake Academy. He was a man of many trades, from truck driving for Wilbur- Ellis, building silos with Vestaburg Silos, becoming a meat processor with Meat Packing in Carson City, and later a lineman at Henkel and Mccoy. Douglas was a member of the Antique Old Iron Tractor Club. He was even known for carrying pictures of tractors around with him. Aside from the love of tractors, especially John Deere, he enjoyed hunting and playing euchre. Douglas will be missed by his fiancé of seventeen years, Katie Latham of Six Lakes; children, Teresa (Orlie Avery) Gibson of Edmore, Vicky (David) Burns of Blanchard, Tonya (Randy) Claybaugh of Blanchard, and Terry (Jessica) Tiffany of Blanchard; Katie’s daughters, Barbie Jo Latham of Mecosta and Katrina (AJ) Stevens of California ; grandchildren, Samuel Burgard, Denielle Castro-sanchez, Josh Grover, Shawn Grover, Trent Grover, Tiffany Claybaugh, Randi Jean Claybaugh, Dalton “Bubba” Claybaugh, Eryn Gatehouse, Kirstyn Robinson; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and siblings, Jack (Kathy) Gibson of Riverdale, Rod (Deanna) Pumford of Vestaburg, Linda Johnston of Vestaburg, and Glenda (Gini) Pumford of Riverdale. Douglas was preceded in death by wife, Gay (Hendricks) Gibson; parents; siblings, Brenda Schnick, Dave Pumford, and Margaretlu Macintyre; and the mother of his children, Esther Latham. A celebration of Douglas’s life with take place on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Community Baptist Church in Alma with Pastor Randy Brandon officiating.
