Wintry mix today, then calmer weather

Renewed threats of slick roads, power outages — but not as severe

-

The work week starts off with a wintry mix across the area as a low-pressure system moves into the region today. The mix will start mid-morning and continue through the day before ending this evening. Up to 2 inches of snow/sleet, a quarter-inch of freezing rain and wind gusts to 35 mph are expected over the course of the day for the Mount Pleasant/big Rapids/alma region, with areas to the north seeing 2-6 inches of snow/sleet.

Use caution while traveling as roads will be slick if untreated; unfortunately, power outages are also possible. The good news is this will be less severe than last week’s storm. Look for highs in the low to mid-30s.

Some clearing is expected for Tuesday with skies becoming partly to mostly sunny by the afternoon. The extra sunshine will allow temperatures to reach the upper 30s.

Cloud cover increases for Wednesday with a chance of rain or a mix of rain and snow showers. Any rain/snow will be light with no significant impacts. Look for highs in the low 40s on Wednesday.

High temperatures will fall to the low to mid-30s on Thursday with partly to mostly cloudy skies expected across the region.

For Friday, snow showers are expected to make their way into the area in the morning, with light accumulations possible for mid-michigan. Mostly cloudy skies with highs around 30 is likely. The clouds briefly disperse on Saturday, which will allow for some sunshine. Winds will be light and variable, bringing about a high temperatures around freezing.

To finish off the weekend, a warm front could move through during the afternoon hours Sunday, which will bring highs in the low to mid 40s. Expect cloudy skies to continue through the day on Sunday.
