THE TWISTED FORK FOOD TRUCK OPENS

- By Sarah Wright swright@medianewsgroup.com

The Twisted Fork Food Truck officially opens to massive support from the community.

This food truck is owned by Peter Grondin who is also currently an executive chef at Riverwood/nine Eight Nine in Mt. Pleasant.

Grondin spent over year working on the trailer for his business and even started a Kickstarter to help cover some of the finishing costs for the business. Grondin initially put approximately $50K into The Twisted Fork Food Truck and raised over $8,000 through a Kickstarter.

“I finished the work on the trailer in mid December and the girls from just fab graphics finished the wrap the first week of January, which was the final project,” Grondin said.

The menu includes a variety of different fusion-style food that comes from different cuisines around the world like chicken & waffle sliders, BBQ brisket tacos, birria tacos,

poke bowls, kimchi fries and french fries, and a chocolate churro ice cream taco.

The grand opening for The Twisted Fork Food Truck was held during the Clare Irish Festival on March 17.

“I thought it would be great exposure and wanted to utilize their marketing,” Grondin said. “It was huge. We were the talk of the town both days. We did really really big numbers and heard nothing but compliments.”

During the grand opening, the business received a lot of praise from the community.

“The community has responded to the concept and menu very positively,” Grondin said. “The general consensus is ‘you just can’t get this kind and quality of food around here.’”

In terms of where the truck will be opperating, Grondin is looking to set up in semi-permanent locations in Mt. Pleasant, Midland, and Clare on a consitent basis.

“Consistency is key in the restaurant world and I plan on staying true to that idea,”

Grondin said. “The community has done their part in supporting me and choosing to dine with me so I feel it’s an obligation to be consistent. I have signed a deal w/ the Midland farmers market for Saturdays starting May 6th. I am also going to be set up on a trial basis at crazy vines winery in Sanford and burnouts classics and collision next week. However, I would like a location right on Mission.”

Grondin has also received a lot of catering interest for summer weddings.

“I have booked multiple 150+ weddings for this summer and next summer,” Grondin said. “I have also had a lot of interest in corporate events, baby showers, and openhouses. I have a ton of venues interested in partnering up as well.”

In terms of long-term plans for the business, Grondin is exploring options to expand.

“I’ve recently had interest from investors looking to partner up for a brick and mortar local to the community and am exploring my options with that,” Grondin said. “My overall goal is to have multiple locations, rather thats a fleet of food trucks, or a chain of brick and mortars, or both, only time will tell. You will all just have to follow along and see where we go.”
