CENTRAL WINS HOME OPENER VIA LAST-SECOND FIELD GOAL

Central Michigan placekicke­r Tristan Mattson hit a 47-yard field goal as time expired Saturday to lift Central Michigan University to a 45-42 victory in its home opener versus New Hampshire.

With the game tied at 42-42 and 3:18 left in regulation the Chippewas (1-1) put together the game-winning drive. The Chippewas got down to the Wildcat 29-yardline with four seconds left in regulation when Mattson drilled the gamewinner. It was his first field-goal attempt of the season and as a Chippewa. It was also the Chippewas’ first field-goal attempt of the season.

The game itself was a back-and-forth contest. The Chippewa s led by 14 points on three different occasions, yet it didn’t hold as 11th-ranked New Hampshire came storming back every time.

Central Michigan quarterbac­k Bert Emanuel Jr. had a solid day as he opened the scoring early in the first quarter with a 66-yard scoring run. Early in the second quarter he added in a 5-yard TD run. For the day he rushed it 21 times for 101 yards and two scores. He also completed 7-of-19 passes for 193 yards and two scores. He did throw two intercepti­ons too.

Emanuel Jr. hit Tyson Davis with a 31yard TD in the third and hit Jesse Prewitt

III with a 32-yard scoring pass in the fourth. Myles Bailey also had an 86-yard kickoff return for score for the Chippewas.

Chris Parker led the receivers with 124 yards on three catches while Bailey added in 106 yards on the ground.

New Hampshire back Dylan Laube led

the Wildcats as he caught 12 Max Brosmer passes for 295 yards and two scores. He also rushed it in from 2 yards out.

Brosmer completed 32-of-50 passes for 493 yards and four scores.

The Chippewas return to action at Notre Dame next weekend.
